Alec Ilyine is an electro acoustic musician mixing fingerpicking with fieldrecordings and effects on the iPad. Sweet melodies and compositions are used as frameworks for an improvisational practice, using 6- and 12-string acoustic steelstring guitars, cavaquinho, charango, ud and taishogoto.

As an intrepid traveler, bird sounds and song are collected and used as a sonic representation or souvenir of a certain place or country.

Nature sounds are used as a sonic backdrop and function as a basso continuo under the sounds of the plucked strings. 

It really is all about the Drift Lines. Ilyine isn’t hemmed in by any one style or concept, oscillating between styles with each piece. And in doing so, he fills every corner of the room with unbridled energy.

Josef Albers

In ‘Interaction of Colors’ Josef Albers writes about the interaction of colors, what happens between colors, and about the discrepancy between physical fact and psychic effect. Here ‘color’ is replaced with rhythm.
After recording the drumparts,  two musicians played on top, adding their interpretation of Albers’ work on top of the drumparts.
